Artist Spencer Byles spent a year in a French forest creating sublime sculptures inspired by their natural surroundings.
If you're lucky enough to stumble across one of Spencer Byles's sculptures, you're in for a unique treat. These surreal pieces dot the woodlands near three French villages: La Colle Sur Loup, Villeneuve Loubet, and Mougins.
The year-long period of isolation allowed Byles to forge a deep connection with the natural environment and translate that connection into sculptures that communicate with their natural settings. He uses found materials to build organic structures that include portals of concentric circles, spiraling pillars, hanging pods, animal shapes, and much more. The delicate composition of these pieces and their exposure to the elements also makes them temporary, as they begin decomposing even before he completes them.
