“There’s a one in billions chance we’re in base reality.”
During the recent Code Conference in Southern California, a media panel had the opportunity to interview the tech billionaire and SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk. Musk, who has ambitious plans to send a one-way rocket to Mars by 2018, also believes colonists will be arriving on the Red Planet as early as 2025.
The media panel, consisting of Recode's Kara Swisher and The Verge's Walt Mossberg, had a chance to ask Musk about his plans. Musk had much to say, including discussions around electric vehicles, the possibility that autonomous cars will become the norm in the future, and initiatives that compete with his other company, Tesla Motors. Musk said he didn’t see Google as a competitor, but that Apple was more of a threat.

The audience at the conference had a chance to ask Musk some questions during the interview, including this one from the co-founder of The Verge, Joshua Topolsky:
Is our life a simulation?
Here’s what Musk had to say:
“There’s a one in billions chance we’re in base reality” Musk said. Meaning, the life we are living is most likely a video game simulation, and there’s a one in billions chance we are in living in reality. Although not everyone will agree with Musk’s opinion surrounding the topic, the tech expert did make some valid points that leave us to ponder.
Excitingly, during the interview Musk also mentioned a potential new project he could be involved with called “neural lace”. According to Gizmodo, it’s a device futuristic humans will install in their brains, essentially allowing for wireless brain-computer interface.
