Google’s Project Soli Could Make Touchscreen Technology Obsolete

In the future we may be able to navigate our devices without touching them.

Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) team is known for creating new technology hinged on some of the most unusual and mind-blowing ideas in the field. Project Soli, a venture involving radar-based technology, falls nowhere short of ATAP’s impressive reputation — the new technology allows you to control your devices without touching them.

The technology works with a sensor that can recognize gestures, even the slightest finger movements. It does so with a small chip that could be implanted in all sorts of tech devices and wearables. The technology is still in progress at the ATAP labs, but the fact that it has the potential to outdo touchscreen technology and enable even more refined navigation of our devices is extraordinary.

Watch Project Soli’s radical idea in motion.
