Medical teaching through virtual reality has been taken to a completely new level. Medical Realities, a medical company that uses virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and special video games for surgical training will be hosting the world’s first ever VR live stream of a medical surgery tomorrow (April 14).

“We are using virtual reality, augmented reality and serious games to change the way people look at surgical training,” quotes Medical Realities on their website.

The live surgery will be taking place at 1pm BST (8 am EDT). The surgeon will be equipped with a 360-degree, live-streaming, high-definition camera, which will allow the viewers to be immersed in the operating experience. The surgery itself will be quite simple: a basic tumor removal which normally doesn’t contain any significant risks for the patient.

For those interested in joining, you will be required to download the app to your iOS or Android smartphone from the company’s website here. You will also need to use something to mount your phone, like Google Cardboard, which will allow you to take part in the VR educational stream.
