Being dyslexic is harder than you might have imagined

Dyslexia is a learning disability that leaves individuals with trouble processing words and numbers correctly. The language-based learning disability causes poor reading skills, difficulties in understanding words as well as oral reading fluency and spelling problems.

A staggering number of people in the U.S. have dyslexia, with research pointing to figures between 10 and 15 percent of the American population.

The struggles faced by individuals with dyslexia are very real. Many individuals might not know they have the disability, additionally, many don’t receive any acknowledgement or support while living with this difficult condition.

This makes it hard for those not affected by dyslexia to fully comprehend what struggles those affected might need to deal with.

Web developer Victor Widell recently set up a website that demonstrates what it might be like to have dyslexia. Although the severity of the condition differs between different individuals, the simulation will give you a rough idea of how hard someone with dyslexia might have to work during school or university compared with those who do not have the condition.

You can try the web simulation here to see for yourself.
